August

Life is good. I have been in a crafting craze and having so much fun. I feel a little bit like I am in a golden phase of energy and things turning out so I am riding it until I am back to lazy with iffy results. Most of my efforts are for a Harry Potter party I will be throwing for a certain 11-year-old... a whole year from now.

School seems to be off to a good start. Rory was waiting to be picked as "King of the Day" and got his wish. The king gets interviewed by the class and then everyone draws their picture and the portraits get sent home in a little book. Precious. Silas went from no homework last year to having to do research and an essay on the first Friday of school. I am really proud of him though, because it is all him in wanting to knock it out. I am still operating a bit like it is summer and I just randomly have to pop in at my job from 7-3.

Happy Birthday, Silas!

My baby is double digits!! We had such a fun time playing inflatable baseball. Bonus fun, we got to celebrate #26 with Silas's birthday twin, Uncle Trevor! It was the Beavers verse the Pine trees. The Beavers opened up hot, but the Pine trees kept it interesting up to the end. The teeth prevailed and the trees toppled, but who could be too mad with the rockin' walk-up playlist provided by our very own tune boy Trenton. I would like to record that Silas chose the song Praises and Rory chose Place in the Choir, so give us credit for being devout. Mad currently because I just realized we missed singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame for the 7th inning stretch.

I really went all out with food receptacles. Plastic ice cream caps and two types of baseball themed nacho trays! We had ballpark fare and will now be eating peanuts for a year. Pregame the brothers and cousins hunted with us for Babe Ruth's glove in a rather lame escape room where one clue basically said "Use this code on that door over there." and another was so vague we couldn't even get it with a hint. The shorter crew finagled the final lock open twice before we finally got to it, which kind of worked against me harping at them to actually pay attention to the puzzles. Turns out we wouldn't have escaped without their lock-pickery.

Postgame there was a splash zone, piƱata, and many rounds of the game, Who's Sparkler Will Last the Longest? I hope Silas had enough fun to cover his actual birthday because Daron and I both had to work for the first time ever. We strung him along with gifts and his requested Chick-fil-a and Spaghetti, so I don't think it was too terrible. I give him a hard time for his unseasonal wardrobe choices, but I actually think he is the most amazing ever.
